The Dumfries & Galloway Junior League continued on Sunday with the Langholm/Lockerbie teams playing each other in their first match and the Dumfriesshire/Stewarty teams playing each other in a re-match at Nunholm.
In the return match it was Dumfries West who got the bragging rights and their revenge with a 5-wicket victory over the Dumfries East side. Bowling first they managed to keep the score to what in the end was an easily manageable 110 for 5 and then knocked them off with just over 3 overs to spare.
Player of the match was Douglas Hubbert who took advantage of his captain’s astute reading of the rules by taking 3 wickets and then hitting an aggressive 45 which included some excellent shots. Aiden Collingwood and Chris Berry were the other wicket takers in the East innings with one apiece and both looked impressive.
The East’s batting was dominated in the early overs by Chris Lumb and then Todd Rafferty and Freddie Graham-Campbell looked impressive in the later overs. The West bowlers were very thankful when their 20 overs were up!
The West reply got off to a good start with Walker and Lawrie running well between the wickets. Hubbert’s innings set up the victory but when he was out there were still over 30 runs required. Niall Alexander then made his bid for all-rounder status, taking advantage of some slightly short bowling by clinically dispatching it to the extra-cover boundary.
